SHRM-Atlanta held its second chapter meeting of the year on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center. Over 120 members attended the event which included complimentary headshots sponsored by Discover Dunwoody, dedicated time to meet with sponsors and exhibitors of the chapter meeting and connect with old and new friends and colleagues!
Immediately before the chapter meeting current SHRM-Atlanta volunteers gathered to participate in focus groups to continue the task of defining the work needed, and how best to delineate these tasks, between volunteers and staff to meet the newly initiated strategic plan goals. Three groups met to discuss member engagement, volunteer management, and community impact. These focus groups spent the morning defining the core capabilities SHRM-Atlanta needs to create value, deliver the business strategy, and achieve the goals of the strategic plan.
In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness month, the topic of the lunch session was Burnout: Eliminating Fuel, Recognizing Sparks, Extinguishing Flames presented by Tim Huff, from Turknett Leadership Group. Tim presented some key data points to kick off his presentation; 86% of HR professionals are more stressed out now than last year, 48% are looking for new jobs, and 56% of workers indicated that their HR departments did not encourage conversations about burnout. Tim also discussed the difference between stress and burnout, the five phases of burnout, and how to take action early. Also in attendance were representatives from the Veterans Empowerment Organization, a current SHRM-Atlanta community partner, who shared with the audience the work they’re performing to benefit veterans in Georgia, and to recognize Military Appreciation month.
To wrap up the afternoon all the sponsors and exhibitors gave away some fantastic prizes including tickets to Six Flags, Marriott Bonvoy Points, a Bluetooth speaker, and a yoga mat relaxation bundle. SHRM-Atlanta would like to thank all the sponsors and exhibitors who made this event possible and to the attendees who gathered to learn and grow together.
Thank you MetLife, Kaiser Permanente, Discover Dunwoody and Abenity for your support of SHRM-Atlanta!
